President Igor Dodon said he considers the director of the National Public Health Agency Nicolae Furtună following the made statements no longer has the moral right to hold this post and should resign. He noted he informed the Government about his position and is waiting for a decision that would meet the expectations of the people, IPN reports.
“I express my regret and consternation about the statements made by the NPHA director Nicolae Furtună. The public apologies are not at all sufficient when, by a statement, you morally affect a large number of people. I have no objections to the work done by Mister Furtună. I know he worked hard in this very difficult pandemic period, but the fully inappropriate statement he made seriously affects his credibility further,” Igor Dodon posted on Facebook.
In a TV program, Nicolae Furtună said that almost all the deaths associated with the novel coronavirus involved persons who suffered from at least one comorbidity, such as obesity, cancer, diabetes mellitus. “I don’t want to be judged and to look cynical, but COVID-19 all over the world claimed the lives of those who were a burden for them and for those around. These were people who had terminal cancer, advanced states of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases,” he stated.
