Agreements concerning the launch of negotiations on the conditions of the new contracts for the supply and transit of Russian gas as of January 1, 2020 were reached, President Igor Dodon, who had a meeting with the Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Aleksey Miller in St. Petersburg, announced, IPN reports.
“On the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, I had a working meeting with the Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Aleksey Miller. We considered the cooperation method and prospects in the energy sector. In particular, we discussed issues related to the supply of Russian gas to Moldova and its transmit through the territory of our republic,” President Dodon posted on Facebook.
According to him, in 2018 Gazprom supplied 2.9 billion cubic meters of gas to Moldova, up 8.4% on 2017, when 2.7 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied.
President Igor Dodon is taking part in the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. On June 5, he had a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Dmitry Kobitski. According to the President, they discusses the current state of the relations between Moldova and the Commonwealth of Independent States and the cooperation prospects.
President Dodon said he expressed his regret at the insufficient interaction between Moldova and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly owing to the refusal of the administration of Moldova’s Parliament of the previous legislature to take part in the activity of the CIS bodies. “I’m hopeful that this problem will be solved when a parliamentary majority and the new Government of Moldova are formed. These will involve representatives of the Party of Socialists who support the President’s position on the restoration of an efficient partnership with the CIS states,” noted Igor Dodon.
