President Igor Dodon considers the Democrats’ bill that restricts the news programs of the Russian TV channels seriously limits the freedom of expression and represents geopolitical revenge and defiance of the own people. In a news conference, he said he will not promulgate such a law, IPN reports.
“I consider this is a provocative action against the Russian Federation. The Democrats call it informational securitization, but in reality try to eliminate any criticism of the West and its imperialist actions. For this government, anything that comes from Russia is bad, while anything that comes from over the Prut or the ocean is good,” stated President Dodon.
He also said that the people see and understand everything. The harder the government is trying to limit access to information, the more insistent are the people in their efforts to remove the Democrats from power. “It is not long until this happens – in the next parliamentary elections. I reiterate, I will not promulgate this legislative initiative of the Democrats and will block it by all ways possible,” stated the President.
A bill proposed by Democratic MPs to amend and supplement the Broadcasting Code was registered in Parliament. According to the authors, the bill protects the information area and sets European standards for the presentation of political information. The bill enables the TV channels to broadcast news and analytical programs and programs of a military character only with reference to the EU member states, the United States, Canada and the member states of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.
