Former President Igor Dodon said the accusations concerning the alleged acts of corruption, bribe taking, illegal financing of the party and treason are unfounded. According to him, these accusations are based on video recordings that were illegally made by Vlad Plahotniuc in June 2019 and, respectively, these cannot serve as evidence in court. This is the message transmitted by the ex-President, who was detained on Tuesday, through the agency of his lawyers, IPN reports.
“I repeat what I said: in June 2019 I exposed myself and my family to an enormous risk when I had pseudo-negotiations with Plahotniuc, realizing that I was being filmed, with the aim of removing the oligarchic regime and of creating an anti-oligarchic governmental coalition: PSRM+ACUM (PAS+DA). I did this well and offered a new chance to the Republic of Moldova,” stated the politician.
Igor Dodon noted he realizes well what for and in whose interest this pressure is exerted. Political cases are started by order, selective televised justice is being organized, hatred is being propagated and his public image is being damaged. “But I’m firmly convinced that the people already realized how deceitful and false and how antidemocratic and revengeful the current government can be and how incompetent it is in the management of the real problems of the country. I will resist the pressure. Together with my team, with all the members and supporters of the Party of Socialists, the patriotic citizens of Moldova, we will ultimately free the country from this abusive and deceitful regime that captured the state institutions and methodically destroys the country, the economy, the faith and future,” stated Igor Dodon.
The criminal case featuring the ex-President of the Republic of Moldova was started over passive corruption, acceptance of the financing of the political party by a criminal group, treason and unjust enrichment. Igor Dodon pleads not guilty, saying that this case is political in character. The Ciocana Court of Chisinau is today examining the prosecutors’ request to remand the ex-President in custody. The Socialists are protesting in front of the Parliament Building.
