If state institutions were free, at least three parties would be excluded from electoral race, opinion

If the state institutions in the Republic of Moldova were free, at least three political parties would be excluded from the current electoral race for gross violations of the financing rules. These are the Democratic Party, the Party of Socialists and the Shor Party, public policy expert Ștefan Gligor was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel.

Ștefan Gligor said in the current election campaign they use the instrument of voter corruption more than ever. “Therefore, I think the PDM, PSRM and PPȘ should be excluded from the race as there are all the reasons for such a move. Regrettably, this will not happen as functional and independent state institutions stopped existing in the country long ago,” he stated adding he does not see a real confrontation between contenders and considers the current elections are a simulation.

Politologist Ernest Vardanean said the foreign partners will stop considering the PDM the party that decides if the Democrats lose control and will not form a pro-West coalition. There are a number of scenarios concerning the formation of coalitions after the parliamentary elections. One of these is that the PDM would tear away seats from the Socialists and would form the next coalition in Parliament together with other independent MPs.

Asked if he considers the electoral struggle between the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists is real, analyst Vitaly Andrievski said he considers this is real. “If the two parties after the elections reach an agreement, can we say that the elections were an imitation? If Maia Sandu comes to terms with Vladimir Plahotniuc, was this an imitation of the struggle?” he asked. According to him, the Democrats could outstrip the Socialists in single-member constituencies and could thus become leaders and the other citizens would gather around them. “In single-member constituencies, the Democratic candidates in practically all the districts are more powerful than the Socialists. Igor Dodon said on the issue: “Don’t attract attention to the family, but vote for the symbol”. In this regard, Dodon de facto increases the force of his candidates. They themselves in constituencies cannot obtain anything,” stated Vitaly Andrievski.
