‘I know you care about the country’, president Sandu tells Moldovans in GOTV effort

President Maia Sandu says that the decision to initiate the referendum stems precisely from the conviction that the people of Moldova must decide their fate. “Don’t let others decide for you. Don’t let your neighbor decide for you. Come vote on October 20 and regardless of what you choose, say freely and honestly, alone with your own conscience in the voting booth, which way you want Moldova to go”, the president urged Moldovans in a video address.

Maia Sandu noted that on October 20, the people will have their say in the referendum to introduce the EU membership aspiration into the Constitution. According to her, “no one is stronger than the people - not lies, not aggressive propaganda, not criminal groups paid with dirty money from abroad”.

“Dear citizens, the referendum is not mine, it is not for me, the referendum is for all the people of this country. Everyone of you, all of us, must tell what we think on October 20, we say where we want to go. Whether you support the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union or not, go to the referendum”, noted the president.

“If you refuse to go out and vote, it’s like saying that you don’t care what happens to Moldova, to your family, to your life. But I know that you do," says the head of state.

Along with the presidential election on October 20, a simultaneous referendum will be held where Moldovans will be asked: “Do you support the amendment of the Constitution with a view to the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union?”.
