The Hungarian company MET Group, which is expected to supply gas to the Transnistrian region, also needs an agreement with the Ukrainian transmission system operator. The information was confirmed by the company to RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, IPN reports.
The response received from MET Group suggests that the company plans to supply gas to the Transnistrian region either through the Trans-Balkan pipeline, which passes through the south of the Republic of Moldova, or through a pipeline that crosses Moldova in the north, or both, not necessarily through the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline, the quoted source noted.
Supplies under this arrangement are due to begin on February 13. But they "can only take place if the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine is ready," the Hungarian company said in its response.
MET Group noted that it is holding talks with Ukraine.
Under a decision taken by the Commission for Emergency Situations, the Hungarian company MET Gas and Energy Marketing AG will be able to deliver gas to the Transnistrian region starting February 13.
"It goes to the delivery of 3 million cubic meters of gas per day by a European trader, during a period of 16 days. If the supplies exceed this volume and large industries start to work, then the Government in Chisinau will tax the transactions," stated Premier Dorin Recean.
MET Gas and Energy Marketing AG, paid by JNX General Trading L.L.C. based in Dubai, will bring gas to the border with the Republic of Moldova, based on the contract signed with Moldovagaz. Tiraspol will pay in advance the transit costs for gas transported from the border with the Republic of Moldova to the region.
