Some 280 explosive objects and more than 2600 cartridges were liquidated by the National Army's bomb disposal engineers last year. It is the result of more than 800 demining missions, IPN reports, referring to a statement issued by the Defense Ministry.
The teams of military engineers intervened most often in Anenii Noi and Stefan Voda districts.
Thus, engineers from the "Codru" Battalion intervened in the village of Serpeni, Anenii Noi, where they discovered a total of 53 artillery projectiles of different caliber, 16 hand grenades, one thrower bomb and 2117 cartridges.
At the same time, military engineers were called to the localities of Stefan Voda, Cioburciu and Slobozia in the Stefan Voda district, where they found a total of 13 artillery shells, four thrower bombs, seven hand grenades, nine warheads and 400 cartridges.
Most of the explosive targets were found by locals or workers during household, construction or agricultural work.
All the munitions dated back to the Second World War period and posed a high risk to life. They were destroyed either in specially designated sites or at National Army training centers under maximum safety conditions.
