Humanist Party changes name

The Humanist Party of Moldova changed its official name to the Christian Humanist Party of Moldova (PCUM). The decision was made on Saturday at the second extraordinary Congress of the Party. PCUM president Ion Mereuta told Info-Prim Neo that several members of the party pleaded for this decision and that it relates to the party’s alignment to the Christian political doctrine. The delegates voted unanimously for the independence of the Moldovan Orthodox Church. Participants in the Congress also pleaded for the continuation of the Party’s policy concerning the consolidation of democratic pro-European forces in the direction of the creation of a competent political power. This force should be capable of taking upon itself the responsibility for taking over the power and settling the society’s problems on the basis of general human and Christian values. The objectives of the party include the educational process, physical and moral health and the problems of the family, mother and child. The party’s Constitution Congress was held on December 10, 2005. The objectives set by the party are: promotion and implementation of Moldova’s territorial integrity, building of the humanist society and the country’s integration into the European and world system of values; revival of human and national dignity in Moldova; humanisation of politics and others.
