Hostel of Holercani High School renovated with support of EU
Students from Holercani and neighboring villages, including from the left bank of the Nistru River, will benefit from now on from better living and education conditions thanks to the renovation works of the high school hostel.
The repair of the hostel was carried out with the assistance of the project “Support to Confidence Building Measures”, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program, in cooperation with the inhabitants of the village and local government, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Tudor Tanasev, Mayor of Holercani, the hostel of the high school was built 56 years ago and since then it underwent superficial repairs a few times, which caused the deterioration of the building. “The building of the hostel is foreseen for 120 people, but in the absence of appropriate conditions we could not accommodate more than 30 students,” Tudor Tanasev said.
The heating and sewerage systems of the hostel have been replaced, the electrical networks have been rehabilitated, the stairs, rooms, corridors and the facade of the building have been repaired, the doors were changed and the territory around the hostel has been arranged. The reparation works took more than half a year. The total cost of the works is €102,820.
Attending the opening ceremony of the hostel, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, said that this project provides students and teachers from Holercani and neighbouring villages with better conditions for education which will have a positive impact on the whole community. “EU plans to further support projects in the Transnistrian region, in particular in the social, business and environment areas. These projects, aimed at building confidence, are implemented for the benefit of people from both banks of Nistru River,” Ambassador Dirk Schuebel said.
Matilda Dimovska, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, said at the ceremony that through these projects UNDP contributes to the sustainable development of local communities in the Republic of Moldova and will continue to support such initiatives in order to improve the quality of life of people from rural areas.
The project “Support to Confidence Building Measures” aims to address the needs of the communities from the Transnistrian region by increasing the access to basic social and economic services and to objective and diversified information sources.
