Honey-makers of Moldova benefit from a law regulating their activity

The parliament voted on Thursday, 30 March, in final reading, Honey-makers Law, aiming to create conditions fro increasing the quality and the production. According to Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, last years this branch registered negative trends. Because of difficult fiscal burden, the high price to apicultural equipment and transport costs, as well as other difficulties, keeping bee families is not profitable. The law includes 7 chapters and 17 articles. Among the facilities it includes is tax exemption to 15 lei per room. According to draft bill, the number of bee families is not limited, but local public administration has the right to limit their number, within the village limits, depending on keeping conditions, veterinary-sanitary conditions and protection of the population. The number of bee families on the territory of fruit-vegetable societies is regulated by their members. In 2005, in Moldova there were produced 1,800 tones of honey, 200 tones of them were exported, especially in Western Europe.
