History lessons for Moldovan diaspora members from 22 countries

Representatives of the Moldovan diaspora from 22 countries took lessons of history concerning the formation of the Moldavian state. The historical views were presented Monday by deputy premier Victor Stepaniuc accompanied by several Moldovan historians at the 3rd congress of the Moldovans living abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports. Victor Stepaniuc has specified at a conference dedicated to the 650th anniversary of the Moldavian state that Moldova does not have a sufficiently objective history, many false facts are in it, what makes the people doubt their own national identity, and to study the history of the state they live in more intensely. “Not all the details referring to Moldova's history are written in the history textbooks existing till now. Moldavia's history till 1857 was written mostly by the Moldovan chronicle writers, but later the views of the Moldavian historians was ignored and contributions to writing Moldavia's history have been brought by Russian and Romanian historians, what does not allow us to speak of a truthful history,” Stepaniuc said. According to the vice prime-minister, there are few fundamental works on Moldavia's history, because most of the doctor works written for the last 16 years were dedicated to the Romanians' history. “This is to prove that our big scientists, who have studied during the Soviet era, and now seem to work at the Moldovan Science Academy, have promoted other scientific theses. Only several objective works have been written for the last three years by the scientists of the History Institute, Vasile Stati's works being among them,” the deputy premier thinks. Stepaniuc showed dissatisfaction with the name Basarabia attributed to Eastern Moldavia. “And this name “Basarabia”, which has nothing in common with Moldova, is an offending name, reminding of the big rupture in the soul and conscience of the Moldavian people,” Victor Stepaniuc says. Congress III of the Moldovan diaspora lasts in Moldova from October 12 to 14, according to an action plan supporting people from Moldova living abroad, from 2006 to 2009. For the first time at such a congress, the diaspora will stage a festival at the Opera Theater in Chisinau. The first and the second congresses of the Moldovan diaspora were held in 2004 and 2006.
