As long as people keep ideological fragments of the totalitarian communist regime in their consciousness, democracy in Moldova will always face challenges, Stated Deputy Prime Minister Ion Negrei at a scientific conference held on Thursday in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The nations that didn't suffer the tragedy of deportations and repressions live today civilized life styles and these living standards should be implemented in Moldova as well. This should be done by overcoming the remnants of the totalitarian communist system that still persist among us and by restoring the historical truth”, stated Ion Negrei. Historian Gheorghe Palade saluted the recent declassification of the files on the victims of communist deportations and repressions and expressed hope that researches and similar activities will continue after the installation of the new government, as well. “It is crucial for us all to know about the tragedy suffered by thousands of people persecuted by the totalitarian communist regime. There isn't a single village in Moldova where someone wasn't arrested, condemned and deported”, said Gheorghe Palade, who is a member of the Commission for the evaluation of the communist regime in Moldova. The Commission was established on 14 January 2010 by presidential decree to work on reports, studies and analyses and assess the totalitarian communist regime from historical, political and legal perspectives. One of such publications was unveiled at the Thursday's conference under the title “Moldovans Under the Bolshevik Terror”.
