Heavy fines for illegal cutting of fir trees

Those who will be caught illegally cutting fir and other coniferous trees face heavy fines. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the fine for private individuals varies between 800 and 1,000 lei or up to 60 hours of community service, while for legal entities - between 8,000 and 10,000 lei or 40 to 60 hours of community service, Info-Prim Neo reports. The persons in charge of the protection and guard of forests who will allow illegally cutting trees will be punished with fines of 2,000 to 3,000 lei. They will also have to pay compensations for the caused damage. The Ministry said that 203 places for selling coniferous trees have been authorized for the period between December 20 and 31. Of them, 135 places are in the municipality of Chisinau.
