Hearings on Baghirov case to continue next week

The administration of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Security and Information Service (SIS) and the Ministry of the Interior will be questioned next week about the escape of the Russian blogger Eduard Baghirov from Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. In Thursday’s sitting of the legislature, Valeriu Dediu, acting director of the SIS, said Eduard Baghirov left Moldova through the Transnistrian region and headed for Odessa. The SIS asked the Ukrainian colleagues to immediately provide related information and there was opened an inquiry to establish what means of transport Baghirov used and who accompanied him. The lawmakers expressed their bewilderment at the fact that a Moldovan TV channel knew about the escape and even had an interview with the Russian blogger in Odessa, while the SIS knew nothing. The sitting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and the Border Guard Service, but the Liberal MPs said it is the administration of these institutions that should provide explanations. Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said the information presented in Parliament is insufficient and requested that the hearings on this case should go on next week. Eduard Baghirov was arrested in June on suspicion he took part in the organization of the public disorder of April 2009. The blogger ran away earlier this week after being transferred under house arrest. Reportedly he is now in Russia.
