Hearing on Ion Muruianu postponed to October 4
The hearing where the Constitutional Court was to examine the application to determine the constitutionality of Parliament Decision of July 5, 2011, whereby the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu was dismissed, was put off until October 4, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The decision was taken after the authors of the application – Communist lawmakers Sergiu Sarbu and Artur Reshetnikov – asked postponing the hearing. They argued that they filed applications to the Ministry of the Interior, the Supreme Council of Magistrates and the Parliament’s Apparatus, to which they have not received complete answers.
“The information we wait for can influence the examination of this case. In order to have a more objective decision, we need to add this information to our proofs. We hope we will have a final decision on this case on October 4,” said Sergiu Sarbu.
The president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu was discharged by Parliament on July 5, 2011. The decision was taken by the vote of 53 MPs of the Alliance for European Integration after the Supreme Council of Magistrates voted in favor of dismissing the judge the same day.
The Supreme Council of Magistrates on September 13 did not manage to elect the new Supreme Court of Justice president as none of the two candidates polled the necessary number of votes. Acting president of the Court Raisa Botezatu obtained two votes of the nine members of the Council attending, while former president Ion Muruianu gained no vote.
