Health insurance policy to increase in price

In 2013 the rate of the mandatory health insurance calculated as a percentage from one's salary and other forms of remuneration will remain at 7%, equally split between the employer and the employee. However the price of the health insurance policy paid as a fixed amount will increase from 2,982 lei to 3,318 lei, as provided in the draft Law on the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund for the next year, which was today approved by the Government. The unemployed will be able to purchase the policy at half that price within three months from the law's entry into force. For the owners of farmland the discount is 75% until the end of the harvesting season, i.e. 31 October 2013. In 2013 the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund will have incomes of 4.07 billion lei and expenses of 4.14 billion lei. Compared with 2012, incomes will rise by 3.8% and expenses by 4.9 %.
