Head of the Central Electoral Commission considers new elections in Chisinau ill-timed
The president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Eugen Stirbu considers that new elections for the General Mayor of Chisinau should not take place.
He declared on Monday, 15 May, at a press conference, that organizing new elections in Chisinau is not necessary.
Stirbu mentioned that this is his personal opinion and according to the opinion poll organized by CEC it coincides with the opinion of the respondents’ majority. According to him, the members of CEC will decide upon this problem, but the legislation does not stipulate any dead-line for the Commission in this case. At the same time, he said that the examination in the near future of this problem by CEC is not planned.
During 2005 in the Chisinau municipality four ellections took place in order to elect the Mayor of the city. In all 4 cases, the elections were declared not valid because of the low rate of participation.
