The president of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin is not pleased with the way the issue of foreign investments is treated, the head of state declared on Saturday, July 29 at the last plenary sitting of the Parliament in the spring-summer session. According to Voronin “it is incompetent to consider that the inflow of investments will increase significantly due to the sell of those 3.5% of public property. These are not the methods and objectives to talk about today, and it is not about creating a generally accepted economic climate, but about creating a specific economic climate in Moldova. The head of state declared that the main advantage of Moldova is the fact that Moldova is situated in the middle of Europe, bordering the European Union and a huge eastern market, position which must be turned to good account. According to Voronin, it is needed to use carefully the experience of the countries which were not afraid to give maximum freedom to both local and foreign companies. “There must be a rational taxation of the foreign companies for their presence as well as for their activity on the territory of Moldova. It is necessary to develop the infrastructure and first of all – the roadways and the modern telecommunications”, the head of state said. As well the president mentioned that the mechanism of double commercial asymmetry with Europe and CIS must be the goal and the result of Government’s activity. This strategic position of Moldova will become, according to the head of state, one of the most powerful stimulations for attracting foreign investments in the real sector of production in order to create companies capable of attracting considerable labor resources. “The interesting and productive development premises must be pragmatically and professionally turned to good account first of all, not the demagogical declarations regarding the withdrawal from CIS or giving up to European integration”, Voronin said. The head of state pleaded in favor of amending the legislation on free economic zones. Moldova needs not just free economic zones that produce the same type of products which are produced outside it, but free economic zones which would propose preferential conditions for attracting foreign investments in modern technologies, in new products. Voronin ended his speech by saying that without adopting this principles Moldova has no chance to evolve. At present Moldova has a unique chance to get rid of the present foreign conjuncture and to adopt new life quality standards, the head of state concluded. The MPs of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance faction, Social Liberal Party and several independent MPs were not present at the speech of the president. The MPs will be on vacation until September 13.
