Head of Balti Perinatology Center arrested on corruption charges

The chief doctor of the Balti Perinatology Center was arrested for passive corruption. According to the National Anticorruption Center, a man reported that the chief doctor asked 7,000 lei from him for providing medical services of a high quality and ensuring assisted delivery for his wife, IPN reports.

The chief doctor was arrested when he was receiving the last tranche of 5,000 lei. He will be initially held for 72 hours.

In connection with this case, Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco came with a reaction. “We condemn any collection of money from patients by medical personnel – conditional, passive, in the form of thanks. I have permanently disseminated such messages in the medical system and in the public sphere, from the very first day of my tenure. We purchase and install equipment, perform extensive repair works and the salaries over the past few years were raised and will be yet raised. The hospitals’ appearance changes daily. It’s time to renounce such a shame for the system,” said the minister, calling on the patients not to give bribe and not to be afraid to report cases of bribery.
