The categories of persons who cannot be freed from criminal liability if they commit acts of corruption will be extended based on the amendments to Article 55 of the Penal Code approved by the Government, IPN reports.
Thus, these categories will include persons who corrupt voters, who interfere in investigation and prosecution and those involved in traffic of influence, abuse of position or of power, misuse of authority, and falsification of documents.
“In the area of corruption fighting, we started to put the plans into practice. This is an objective that we assumed through the government program. I’m determined to do everything possible for the assumed commitments to be fulfilled. In the Republic of Moldova, the fight against corruption is directly proportional to the economic development of the country,” stated Prime Minister Pavel Filip.
The bill to amend the Penal Code forms part of the plan of action for implementing the national anticorruption strategy for 2011-2015. It is to be presented to Parliament for adoption.
