Half of respondents of poll do not know date of presidential elections

Half of the respondents of a poll do not know when the upcoming presidential elections will take place and this is a signal that the responsible bodies, the NGO sector and the media should lay emphasis on the informing of the citizens, said the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova that presented the poll results. The poll shows the runoffs will involve incumbent President Igor Dodon and the leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity Maia Sandu, IPN reports.

The Association’s president Victor Mocanu said the question “When will the presidential elections be held?” had three response variants. 8% of those surveyed indicted October 20, while each eleventh respondent said November 10. Only half of those polled said November 1. Also, 1/3 of those interviewed said they don’t know or didn’t want to answer. This is a signal that the Central Election Commission and other authorities should inform the voters.

If presidential elections were held next Sunday, 34.5% of the respondents said they would vote for Igor Dodon, 19.1% for Maia Sandu, 7.5% for the leader of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase, while 5.1% for the leader of the Our Party Renato Usatyi. Less than 5% of those polled said they would vote for other politicians. Also, 14.75% said they would vote against everyone.

Judging by the answers of the decided respondents (74%), Igor Dodon (46.1%) and Maia Sandu (25.5%) would duel in the runoffs.

If snap parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, 67.5% of those interviewed said they would go to vote, 18% said they would probably vote, while 7% said they would probably not vote. 6% said they are sure they would not vote, while 22% said they don’t know.

Asked what parties they would vote for, 34.1% of the respondents said the Party of Socialists, 21.9% - the Party of Action and Solidarity, while 5.1% – the Shor Party. Other parties would not gain more than 5%. Of the decided respondents, 43.5% would vote for the PSRM, 27.9% for the PAS, 6.5% for the Shor Party, while 5.5% for the Our Party.

The poll was carried out during July 14-24 and covered a sample of 1,175 persons from 87 localities. The margin of sampling error is +/-3%.
