Gunfire at border with Romania

The border police of Romania’s Botosani detained several persons who were transporting 10,000 packs of contraband cigarettes. Shots were fired in order to catch them, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Iasi Local Border Police Inspectorate. During a specific mission on the night of March 5, the border policemen of the Botosani Local Border Police Service noticed five persons who took six large parcels from the bank of the Prut and headed for the border settlement Badarai. It was later established that the five persons were Romanian citizens aged between 21 and 32 from Botosani county. The five parcels contained Ritm cigarettes with Moldovan excise duties. The investigations are continued in concert with the border authorities of Moldova.
