Grigore Novac: Opposition’s accusations concerning amendment of Election Code are unfounded and illogical

The amendments to the Election Code are welcome as they will improve the electoral legislation. At the same time, the accusations made by the opposition are unfounded and illogical, Socialist MP Grigore Novac stated in a public debate entitled “Amendments to the Election Code: advantages and risks to democracy” that was staged by IPN News Agency.

“You have the same rights as we do. You can delegate representatives, observers, members to electoral offices so as to keep your finger on the pulse of the electoral process,” stated Grigore Novac.

As to the assertions of PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco, who said that the party he represents will challenge in the Constitutional Court the amendments to the Election Code that run counter to the standards of the Venice Commission, Grigore Novac said these instruments were taken over from the former leader of the PDM Vladimir Plahotniuc.

“What the colleagues from the PAS do definitely represents the base methods of Plahotniuc. Only that man tried to ring the bells before time, to make a fuss without having proper reasons,” he stated.

The debate “Amendments to the Election Code: advantages and risks to democracy” was the 144th installment of the series “Developing political culture through public debates” that is supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
