Greece's National Day is celebrated every year on March 25, commemorating the day the Hellenic Republic gained its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1829, IPN reports.
In the center of the Greek capital, Athens, thousands of people gathered to watch the Grand Military Parade that was organized on the occasion of the National Day, greekreporter writes.
The event celebrates the historic 1821 struggle against Ottoman rule, eventually gaining independence. The parade, held in front of the Greek parliament, showcased Greece's military prowess and rich cultural heritage.
Newly-elected President Konstantinos Tasoulas, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, high-ranking officials and foreign diplomats attended the national celebration, highlighting the significance of national unity and Greece's long-standing international alliances.
Reflecting on the sacrifices of heroes in 1821 and the support of the diaspora, he urged unity and faith in Greek values to build a secure and prosperous future.
"Greece is a pillar of stability in a turbulent but strategic region," the Greek president said, quoted by greekcitytimes.
"More than 50 years after the Turkish invasion, we never forget our duty to a free and reunited Cyprus," the Athens leader added.
Greece is a founding member of the United Nations and a member of the European Union, the Council of Europe, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the OECD, the OSCE and the WTO.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Hellenic Republic were established on March 27, 1992.
