Grants of 2,200 and 3,500 lei for refugees and host communities

Persons who fled Ukraine can be considered for the grant. They can be Ukrainian nationals or citizens of other countries who were residing in Ukraine. Each eligible refugee is entitled to 2,200 MDL/month. The grant will be renewed for refugees remaining in the country. To apply for the grant, the refugees need to fill out a form that is accessible from the UNHCR site, IPN reports.

Households and people with the following characteristics are eligible for the grant: household with one or more dependents; household headed by a single parent; household headed by a child (below 18); household with an unaccompanied or separated child, household headed by an older person (above 60).

After completing the form, each household will receive a maib prepaid card. The card is distributed at enrolment sites. It will be loaded within 24-48 hours and you will receive an SMS notification when money has been deposited in your card. The card can be used free of charge for purchases in all stores and for cash withdrawal in ATMs. It is valid in Moldova only.

The Cash Assistance Program for Refugees in Moldova is managed by UNHCR and its partners Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Caritas Moldova and Diakonia.

H
ouseholds hosting refugees from Ukraine are eligible to receive the one-off payment. That cash is intended to cover additional household costs which occur when household sizes increase. Each eligible household will receive US$ 190 (MDL 3,500), one time only.

Households can choose from three options. They can: withdraw the cash from any Western Union branch, withdraw it from any post office (Posta Moldovei) branch, or receive it as a transfer to their nominated bank account.

A list of enrolment centers will be published on the UNHCR help site soon.

The payments within the Cash Assistance for host Communities in Moldova Program are managed by the World Food Program (WFP), in collaboration with its partners – Catholic Relief Services, Helvetas, People in Need Moldova, World Vision, Solidarités International, and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency – under the coordination of UNHCR and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
