The General Police Inspectorate (GPI) recorded alleged deviations from the conduct of the Russian presidential election in the Transnistrian region, the Inspectorate’s head Viorel Cernăuțeanu stated in a program. “The police will document all the circumstances and actions deviating from those aspects that were preset and declared by both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. We, at least today, recorded actions related to alleged deviations from the conduct of this election, as it was decided and legislated by Chisinau in relation to the March 17 election,” the GPI chief stated.
Viorel Cernăuțeanu noted that the involved persons cannot be named. They are examining the circumstances and the insubordination or non-ensuring of the process under the conditions established by Chisinau in relation to the polling stations and other aspects related to the conduct of the March 17 election. “We must respect all the parameters that ensure the rule of law and here, speaking of the Republic of Moldova, we must have those very clear delimitations, where it is political delimitation, where it is electoral delimitation and where it is delimitation of the criminal aspect or the police’s competence,” stated the official, noting that elections earlier degenerated into altercations or unpleasant situations and they should therefore work intelligently and within the law.
As the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Moldova decided, electors in the Transnistrian region on March 17 will be able to vote at polling stations established in Tiraspol, Bender, Rybnitsa and Grigoriopol as part of the Russian presidential election, as the local media reported.
On Tuesday, Russia’s Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs The diplomat argued that that polling stations in the Transnistrian region will be established because the right to vote is a fundamental right of all the citizens, which is stipulated in the Constitution and other normative documents.
In a public call to the Russian Federation, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean demanded to show respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and also for the citizens’ rights and freedoms.
