Governor of Gagauzia accuses PDM of destabilizing social-political situation in region

The Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal accuses the Democratic Party (PDM) of destabilizing the sociopolitical situation in the region and calls on the Democratic leader Marian Lupu to leave the party and to vacate the seat of MP, IPN reports.

Mihail Formuzal told a news conference that in the protest staged by the PDM in Comrat on November 7, persons from the old people’s home, including with mental disabilities, were forced to plead against the policies promoted by the Governor in the region. “In a democratic state, such actions would lead to criminal cases and would mean the end of a political career,” he said.

According to the leader of the autonomous region, the PDM intends to field a docile candidate for the post of Governor in the future elections, but they will lose the electoral battle. “The Democratic Party will obtain not votes from the Gagauz people, but the ears of a dead donkey,” said Mihail Formuzal.

“There are made many statements, but we should not comment on every public appearance of the politicians, who do not want to lose their posts and try to promote their own ideas,” said Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu, when asked by IPN to comment on the Government’s statements. He described them as elements of a political struggle.
