Government suggests increasing unemployment benefit and reducing VAT for hospitality industry

The Ministry of Finance drafted a bill to provide concessions to the unemployed and business entities, including to raise the unemployment benefit and to reduce the VAT rate for the hospitality industry from 20% to 15%. The provisions will be valid during the state of emergency, IPN reports.

Under the bill, the unemployment benefit will be increased to 2,775 lei. The minimum sum will be provided to persons who register officially as unemployed, but do not meet the criteria for receiving unemployment benefit.

The minimum monthly stated guaranteed income will be increased from 1,107 lei to 1,300 lei, while the minimum monthly guaranteed income for each child from 50% of the minimum guaranteed income (553 lei) to 75% (975 lei).

Also, the patent holders who stopped work during the state of emergency will be exempted from paying the patent tax and will be refunded the social contributions in fixed amount. The persons who practice independent activities and entrepreneurial activities and stopped work in the period will benefit from the same concessions.

The deadline for paying local taxes for business entities that stopped work in accordance with the decisions taken by the Commission for Exceptional Situations will be extended until July 25.

An additional sum of 816 million lei will be needed for implementing the given measures.
