The Government acted correctly when it decided to concede the Chisinau International Airport and not to subscribe for shares of the additional issue of Banca de Economii (BEM) as it didn’t have financial possibilities to act otherwise, considers the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat, IPN reports.
In the program “Friday with Anatol Golea” on RTR Moldova channel, the politician said the decision to decrease the state-owned holding in the BEM from 56% to 33% was taken based on the Parliament’s decision. The legislative body took into account the recommendations of the special parliamentary commission headed by Communist MP Oleg Reidman.
“The state didn’t have the 1 billion lei needed to save the bank. I understand that it would have been better for the Communists if the bank had gone bankrupt. They would have staged revolts and the people would have taken to the streets. Now the state bodies should make sure that the commitments are fulfilled,” said Vlad Filat.
As to the Chisinau International Airport that was leased out to a Russian company for 49 years, the politician said the airport is urgently in need of investments. “The sum of €240 million wasn’t set by me, but by independent experts. The state doesn’t have this money. The Communists do not like that these are Russian investments even if they plead for stronger relations with Russia,” he said.
He added it is important that the project be approved and that money start to be invested so that the people feel comfortable. He died being personally involved in the two businesses.
