Gold for Moldovan veteran basketball players

The veteran basketball team of Moldova has won gold at the European Championship in Italy. Moldova played with the Czech team in the final and won by 84 to 59. Moldova has won the gold medal in the continental championship for the first time in history.
Vasile Shleagun, the president of the Basketball Federation, has told Info-Prim Neo that the result achieved by the Moldovan veterans is very important for the national sport. “It can be repeated, but not surpassed,” the quoted source said. Asked if the sportsmen will be rewarded for the victory, Vasile Shleagun said that they filed an application to the Sports Federation, but no official answer has come yet.
The veteran players that form part of the national basketball team are aged between 50 and 60. In 2006, the Moldovan veteran team won bronze. In 2005, it won the title of world champion. Vasile Shleagun said yet that the teams that compete in the European Championship are much stronger than those participating in the World Championship. Therefore, the European gold is much more valuable.
