Glodeni Court president to stand trial for taking bribe

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office finished the investigation and sent to court the criminal case started against the president of the Glodeni District Court over passive corruption. He will stand trial together with the person who offered him bribe for escaping punishment for committing a road accident while under the influence of alcohol. The culprit will be simultaneously tried for active corruption, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the judge was arrested by anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center inside the Glodeni Court on April 16, immediately after he took the 10,000 lei bribe offered by the culprit for being acquitted. Both the judge and the briber were investigated.

At the request of Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, this April the Supreme Council of Magistrates has suspended the judge from post. Initially, both of the defendants were arrested for 72 hours, but were then set free.

The criminal case against the two was remitted to the Glodeni Court, but it will be transferred to another court of the same level so as to ensure the objective and impartial examination of this case.
