Gheorghe Cretu: I’m ready to answer before law
The former vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals Gheorghe Cretu said he was ready to answer before the law if it’s proven that the bullet from his gun killed Sorin Paciu while they were hunting in the Domneasca Forest on December 23. “I took part in the hunting in Falesti, where the tragic accident that resulted in the death of a person happened. There are certain elements that connect me and this accident, but my involvement and culpability degree will be established by the investigation bodies. As regards my person, I’m ready to answer the questions of all the institutions involved in the investigation of this case, as I did since the accident occurred. I’m ready to answer before the law if I’m found guilty,” Gheorghe Cretu said in a statement distributed to journalists.
The former vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals said he was deeply marked by the tragedy and offered his condolences to the grieving family. “In order to prove my honesty and not to expose other persons to attacks, and given that I’m a responsible person who puts the law above everything, I today quit as judge and as vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals so as to facilitate the investigation of the Falesti case. I do not hide behind the immunity. I want a fair inquiry so that the truth comes out,” said Gheorghe Cretu.
The Supreme Council of Magistrates withdrew the immunity of Gheorghe Cretu in a meeting on January 10, allowing thus the prosecutors to indict him. The Council members also accepted Gheorghe Cretu’s resignation.
