Moldova continues to gather bronze medals at the World University Games held in Kazan, Russia. On July 11, weightlifter Gheorghe Cernei won bronze in the 85 kg class, IPN reports.
Cernei thus brought the tenth bronze medal to Moldova, of the 11 won at this competition. One medal is silver. In the medals rankings, Moldova comes 39th out of 54 countries.
The other Moldovan weightlifter Dumitru Captari didn’t manage to lift weights in the clean and jerk.
The same day, Olga Bliznet qualified for the final of the singles table tennis competition among women after beating Halim Joumaa of Lebanon and Sin Wing Chung of Hong Kong, China. The 17-year-old Moldovan athlete will continue competing on July 13.
Freestyle wrestlers Anisim Talambat (74 kg), Nicolae Ceban (96 kg) and Andrei Perpelita (60 kg) will fight on July 12.
