“Germany is an important and reliable partner of Moldova”, declared the First Deputy Speaker of Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc, during his visit in Germany, on June 27 and 28. He met with Wolfgang Thierse, Vice-President of the Bundestag, Gernot Eisler, deputy leader of the Social Democratic Party faction in the Bundestag, Rainer Lindner, executive director of the Committee on East European Economic Relations, Manfred Grunt, member of the Christian-Democratic Party and chairman of the Moldovan-German Forum, Rainer Steenblock, deputy chairman of the Forum, and with Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff, former German ambassador in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. They discussed about parliamentary cooperation within bilateral relationships, the European path of Moldova and German support for this effort, the political situation in Moldova after local elections and other subjects. Wolfgang Thierse said that Germany endorsed Moldova’s approaching to European structures and saluted the solid parliamentary relationships between the two countries. Vlad Plahotniuc expressed Moldova’s satisfaction at the stable and strong partnership. He added that Germany was an important and reliable partner of Moldova. Plahotniuc thanked Wolfang Thierse for the assistance offered by German parliamentarians in 2008, when they adopted the statement of “support for the European integration of Moldova”, and in 2009, with the Declaration of support for the Alliance for European Integration. In 2009, the German- Moldovan Forum was created, with the participation of Bundestag parliamentarians, representatives of political foundations, business circles and cultural institutions. It led to the creation of the Moldovan-German Forum in Chisinau, in 2010, with 80 members, including MPs, politicians, businessmen, scholars, and headed by Igor Corman, chairman of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration. Both forums are a platform for facilitating and enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
