Germany commends Chisinau for taking steps to settle Transnistria conflict
German Ambassador to Moldova Nicolaus Graf Lamsdorff has saluted the steps taken by the authorities in Chisinau to find a solution to the Transnistria conflict, the press unit of the Reintegration Ministry reported.
During a meeting with Moldovan Reintegration Minister Vasili Shova, the German ambassador spoke about Moldova’s position vis-a-vis the unconditioned resumption of the five-plus-two talks, and appreciated the proposals by President Vladimir Voronin regarding strengthening confidence and providing support to the population on the left bank of the Nistru River. The German diplomat also praised the Government for the decision to set up working groups in order to put these initiatives into practice, in partnership with representatives from the Transnistrian region.
Nicolaus Graf Lamsdorff reiterated Germany’s offer to provide continuous support in resuming the negotiations in 5+2 format and in finding a solution to the Transnistrian issue that would respect Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
At the meeting, Minister Vasili Shova briefed the German ambassador on the latest developments in the settlement process, with a particular focus on the presidential confidence-building initiatives. In the same connection, the minister highlighted the seminar organised by the OSCE Mission to Moldova and devoted to the same proposals, which took place between October 22-24 in Odessa, and the informal talks in 5+2 format, attended by all the parties involved, including representatives from Tiraspol.
