General Police Inspectorate develops relations with international police organizations

The General Police Inspectorate established ties and developed relations with important regional and international police organizations, including at bilateral level. In a series of international conferences and meetings recently, the Inspectorate’s deputy chief Gheorghe Cavcaliuc established contacts and discussed the initiation of cooperation relations with such officials as the EUROPOL deputy director, SELEC director, deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate of Romania and others, IPN reports, quoting press releases of the Inspectorate.

Thus, on December 5-6, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc took part in the Rome Forum, which is a platform of regional cooperation for the chiefs of police institutions from 12 Southeast European states. This was staged for the fourth consecutive year on the initiative of the National Police of Italy. Alongside the police chiefs, the forum involved the director of the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC), executive director of the INTERPOL police services, EUROPOL deputy director and director responsible for internal security at the European Commission. The prevention and combating of terrorism, organized crime and confiscation of property obtained by criminal means and methods of reinvesting these goods were the main subjects for discussion.

On the sidelines of the event, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc had bilateral meetings with the police chiefs of Italy and Bulgaria, EUROPOL deputy director, SELEC director and deputy chief of the General Police Inspectorate of Romania. At the beginning of 2017, the SELEC director will pay an official visit to Chisinau to discuss the new priorities in the cooperation with Moldova.

The deputy chief of the General Police Inspectorate also discussed the training of police officers with his Romanian counterpart. The officials agreed that a fact-finding visit on human resources management will be paid to Bucharest at the start of 2017.

Earlier, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, alongside representatives of another ten states, took part in the meeting of the police chiefs of the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe, which was held in Sofia. The meeting centered on such subjects as the strategic view for 2017-2019, the IPA project “Prosecutors’ Network of Western Balkans” and internal security. Gheorghe Cavcaliuc expressed his confidence that the good relations of friendship and cooperation and the multilateral cooperation with the member states of the Convention will continue in an active, transparent ad constructive format.

Also in Sofia, Cavcaliuc took part in the General Assembly of the Southeast Europe Police Chiefs Association (SEPCA), where he said he supports the change of the SEPCA’s status from regional initiative (created officially in 2002, with Moldova joining SEPCA in 2007) into a network of police chides designed to ensure the implementation of strategic policies and a coherent and comprehensive approach between decision makers of regional police forces.

The General Assembly took stock of the activities carried out by the SEPCA this year under the Bulgarian presidency, by analyzing the annual report and by addressing current regional challenges and threats.
