“Gandul matei” performed live supporting the anti-drug campaign
The band „Gandul Matei” performed, in Chisinau, for the first time live “Alege sa traiesti” (Choose to live) for supporting the anti-drug campaign organized in Moldova. The performance was included in the agenda of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illegal Traffic, celebrated for the first time in RM on June 26.
According to organizers, among the public invited to the show there were as well ex-drug consumers rehabilitated due to the assistance of numerous non-governmental organizations, willing to transmit the message not to consume drugs to other youngsters.
RM Authorities and civil society anti-drug actions are included in the Abuse Prevention and Drug Traffic Assistance Program in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova (BUMAD), the department head within MAI Anti-Drug Department, Ilie Jecicov, stated on Monday press conference.
According to him, the Anti-Drug Department issued the Strategic Concept regarding drug consumption prophylaxis, preventing and fighting illegal drug traffic. The Program, drafted for a 3-year period, was approved on July 6, 2005, and includes many activities, among them preventing drug consumption, youngsters’ education, rehabilitation of drug consumers etc.
BUMAD Program, financed by the European Union and co-financed and implemented by UNDP Moldova, in partnership with the Internal Ministry, was launched in 2003 and has as goal strengthening the national measures fighting drugs in RM, Belarus and Ukraine by setting a joint basis for trans-border cooperation and optimizing information. These measures will consolidate the capacity of those three countries to fight drug traffic and abuse.
