A deputy from ATU Gagauzia was fined 175,000 lei for influence peddling. He allegedly asserted that he can influence a court decision on a civil case, IPN reports.
According to prosecutors, between October 2019 and August 2021, the deputy asked for and received €12,000 from a person who had an interest in obtaining a favorable court decision on a civil case. Because he did not honor his promise, the person denounced him.
By the sentence of November 26, the court found the deputy guilty of influence peddling. The defendant was fined 175,000 lei and the €12,000 was confiscated for the benefit of the state, as goods resulting from the commission of the crime.
