Furtuna's Reappointment as Deputy Mayor Rejected

Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) rejected on Tuesday the petition of the Territorial Office of the Government to abrogate the decision, dating January 2006, on the deputy mayor’s Mihai Furtuna dismissal. Previously, Mihai Furtuna sued in the court the CMC’s decision, considering it illegal and of political origin. The head of Juridical Department of the mayoralty of Chisinau, Ion Dodonu, reported at the meeting of the Council that the dismissal decision is illegal, because at his dismissal Furtuna was on sick leave. According to Dodonu, now there is a vacant position of a deputy mayor in the mayoralty. Against reinstalling Mihai Furtuna voted the Communist, Christian-Democrat, Social-Democrat and independent councilors, who have voted previously his dismissal. Eugenia Stircea, PPCD councilor, appealed the assistance reject the decision draft and wait for the court’s sentence. Mihai Furtuna was discharged in January, at the initiative of Communist councilors. During the last months, CMC voted for the appointment as deputy mayors three Communist councilors. The legislation in effect stipulates four deputy mayor positions for Chisinau municipality.
