Fruit producers issued a statement to the senior authorities, asking taking measures to diminish the negative effect of the ban imposed by Russia. They said the losses that the national fruit growers will sustain in the near future can be enormous and will have a very negative impact on the future development of the agricultural sector, IPN reports.
According to the producers, this thing is primarily determined by the lack of a consistent and efficient agricultural policy during the last 10 years. In this connection, the farmers demand immediately starting negations with the EU bodies so as to fully liberalize Moldova’s fruit exports to the EU and identifying sources for compensating the fruit producers for the losses sustained following the imposition of the ban.
The fruit producers also ask immediately starting the construction of an Agrifood Center in Chisinau and transferring the majority shareholding to the organizations that represent the agricultural producers, and introducing a common tax in agriculture from 2015.
“We consider that these measures will diminish the negative consequences of the ban, will stabilize the modernization bases of the field and will create favorable conditions for modernizing agriculture, which will inevitably lead to the diversification of the export markets for fruit,” reads the statement.
The statement was signed by the Association of Fruit Producers and Exporters “Moldova Fruct”, the National Association of Agricultural Producers “UniAgroProtect”, the National Farmers Federation “Agroinform”, and the National Federation of Agricultural Producers of Moldova.
In the middle of July, Russia imposed a ban on the import of canned and flesh fruit from Moldova.
