Freelancers working in the artistic sphere mounted a protest in front of the Government Building, demanding that private parties should be allowed. “Why aren’t we supported? We, the arts people, bring only joy to the people and into their homes!” said the protesters who came with a petition addressed to the authorities, IPN reports.
“We respectfully ask you to create a legal framework by which to make sure that we can work in the crisis situation witnessed in our country and the whole world. The population is confused and overwhelmed by fear, unsafely, sadness and depression. This has a negative effect on the economy, primarily on the people’s health,” says the petition.
“We are professional creators of positive emotions that are absolutely vital for the moral state and psycho-emotional health of our people. Consequently, the industry of artistic freelancing is vital and very important for the people to be able to morally survive such global challenges as COVID-19. The hypermarkets, markets, shopping centers and other places where an indefinite number of people come together in an uncontrolled way and cannot be supervised are allowed to operate, but the restaurants and places of recreation cannot stage private events.”
The signatories note the banning of artistic, cultural events and other types of private parties is unfair and their basic right to work is this way violated.
The petition from the initiative group of freelance artists was addressed to President Igor Dodon, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi, Minister of Education, Culture and Research Igor Sharov and Prime Minister Ion Chicu.
