Free breast cancer screening for female health workers aged 40 and over

A foundation based in the Republic of Moldova launched breast cancer screening project intended for doctors, doctor’s assistants and nurses of national health facilities. In the course of 2021, over 200 women will be able to have free scans so as to prevent breast cancer, IPN reports, quoting a press release of “Medpark” Foundation.

According to statistics, over 1,000 women are anally diagnosed with breast cancer in Moldova, this being the most common type of cancer in the country. Because of lack of time or money, the own health is sometimes neglected and prophylactic examinations that save lives are put off. But such a serious diagnosis as breast cancer can be treated with maximum chances of success only if it is detected on time. In countries with advanced medicine, the breast cancer survival rate is of 90-95%. Moldova can also reach such a rate through early screening.

Doctors say mammography is the simplest and most efficient method of early detection of breast cancer. A mammogram is recommended yearly after the age of 40.

The female health workers aged 40 and over, who didn’t have a mammogram during the past half a year, are invited to have breast cancer screening free of charge as part of the project.
