France is providing €30 million in support to Moldova with to improve energy efficiency in public buildings, helping to reduce energy consumption and bills. The agreement was signed at the Élysée Palace by Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu and CEO of the French Development Agency Rémy Rioux, in the presence of Presidents Maia Sandu and Emmanuel Macron, IPN reports.
It goes to the €30 million financing agreement for the project "Initiative for the Development of Sustainable Public Infrastructure through Energy Efficiency Renovations (INSPIREE)", which is aimed at improving energy efficiency in public buildings.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the INSPIREE project aims to reduce Moldova's energy dependence, improve energy efficiency in key public buildings, and support the country's long-term sustainability goals.
The project will focus on the renovation of public buildings, higher education institutions and district hospitals, which will lead to considerable energy savings and improvement of public services.
The project is co-financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through the German bank "Credit Institute for Reconstruction" (KfW) and the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
The implementation of the project will be ensured by the Energy Projects Implementation Unit, under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy.
"Beyond its technical impact, INSPIREE underlines the strong coordination of donors within the initiative "Joint European Financiers for International Cooperation" (JEFIC) and strengthens Moldova's commitment to integration into the European Union," reads a press release.
"We are working together to strengthen Moldova's energy security by diversifying sources, improving efficiency and investing in renewable energy. Moldova is no longer dependent on Russian gas. And today we are taking another step forward," said President Maia Sandu.
