The Buiucani Court issued arrest warrants against four suspects who were arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center within the case concerning the arranging of public tender contests for purchasing medical equipment and consumables, IPN reports.
The director of the Cardiology Institute Vitalie Moscalu was placed under house arrest for a period of 25 days, the director of the Oncology Institute Victor Cernat got 30 days of house arrest, the director of the National Emergency Medicine Center Gheorghe Ciobanu will be held in the Center’s remand unit for 25 days, while the director of a unit of the Ministry of Health Victor Volovei got 25 days of house arrest.
Five of the 16 suspects arrested by the National Anticorruption Center asked for medical assistance and were hospitalized. These include the director of the Cahul District Hospital, a businessman, the director of the National Medical Diagnosis Center Andrei Testemitanu and the vice director of the National Emergency Medicine Center Victor Volovei, who was placed under house arrest.
On April 9, anticorruption officers and prosecutors searched the homes, offices and cars of the suspects and seized 2.2 million lei, over €50,000, almost US$10,000 and other amounts in Canadian dollars, British pounds, Russian rubles, Ukrainian hrivnas and Romanian lei. There were also confiscated bank cards, drafts, copies of purchase contracts, laptops, tablet PCs, computers and other devices carrying information.
