A number of 54 fires caused by the incorrect use of stoves and electric heating appliances occurred in the Transnistrian region since January 1, when it remained without natural gas, the crisis cell in Tiraspol said.
Eight people got poisoned by products of combustion while using the stove and two of them died. Also, two of the 17 people who suffered carbon monoxide poisoning when using gas appliances died, the local media reported.
The self-styled Transnistria authorities are carrying out an information campaign among the locals together with specialists in the region. Special crews go to houses and tell the people about the rules of using stoves and electric heating appliances, IPN reports, with reference to the quoted source.
