Former MoJ official arrested in influence peddling case

A former Ministry of Justice state secretary was arrested in an influence peddling case. According to the National Anticorruption Center, he allegedly asked for a €10,000 bribe to secure a license.

The bribe was allegedly sought from a man on the promise that the official could influence members of the Union of Authorized Administrators’ certification board into issuing an authorized administrator’s license.

The Center said the complainant paid the official €6,000 of the total amount, but when the latter failed to fulfill his part of the deal, the former reported it to the authorities.

The complaint led a criminal investigation being opened and searches being carried out at the suspect’s home and in the office of the UAA head.
