Alexandru Bujorean, a former Liberal Democratic Party vice president, is launching the “Liberation Movement of Moldova”, an initiative to “bring together all divided groups of society, regardless of language, ethnic belonging or religious conviction, in order to free the state from captivity”. The Movement’s first action will be to walk a 160 kilometers’ long march.
The procession will start tomorrow from the southwestern city of Cahul, and will continue though the districts of Cantemir, Leova, Hâncești, and Ialoveni. The march will culminate with a protest rally in Chisinau on a date that depends on how the procession goes, organizers told a press conference today.
Alexandru Bujorean said the event aims to “raise public awareness and reanimate the protest movement in Moldova”. It will be also an occasion to inform people of alleged violations and voting fraud seen in the February elections. Bujorean stressed the march will be peaceful and without actions that could destabilize public order. He invited all opposition parties, including the bloc NOW, to join the Movement.
Other demands of the Movement include the annulment of the mixed voting system, the resignation of all CEC members for their involvement in “rigging the elections”, and the dismissal of the Constitutional Court for validating the allegedly rigged results. The Movement also demands that political arrests stop and that the Second Kroll Report be published.
Bujorean stated that any government invested would be illegitimate, and a solution would be to have snap elections.
In the February elections, Alexandru Bujorean ran in the Leova constituency and garnered 2,048 votes. The constituency was won by PDM’s Efrosinia Crețu, with 6,820 votes.
