The former district head is suspected of asking for €180,000 from the administrator of a Moldovan company, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Center, the court will decide whether to place the suspect under arrest for 30 days. Last October, anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center carried out searches at the home of the former chairman of the Ialoveni District Council. It was later established that the ex-chairman of the Council was chosen as manager of the project. Using his position, this managed to persuade members of the bids assessment group to choose the given firm as winner of the tender contest. For this service, the functionary asked for €25,000. The rest of the sum was to be transferred after the completion of the works.
In the period, the former Council head exerted pressure on the administrator of the winning company, making him to open a bank account abroad and to transfer 10 million lei to it because the firm’s accounts were sequestrated by the Moldovan law enforcement bodies following the identification of irregularities in the company’s work.
The suspect faces up to 15 years in jail.
