Twenty-eight candidates for mayor will contend in the municipality of Chisinau on November 5. These were all proposed by political parties. The number of candidates is by ten higher than in the local elections of 2019. Thirty-seven parties of the 60 are competing in this year’s local elections. Two parties formed an electoral bloc. The force of the political parties was analyzed by Igor Boțan, ADEPT executive director, in a news conference hosted by IPN.

Igor Boțan said the team of ADEPT worked with data of the Central Election Commission to see the extent to which the candidates of political parties cover the country with their platforms. All the data are presented on the platform alegeri.md.

For example, the PAS has candidates in all the 34 constituencies of the second level, as do the Party of Socialists and the Chance Party.

According to the executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT, if the organizational power of the political parties is measured, it is seen that the ruling party PAS has candidates in 82% of the 1,830 electoral districts. This is followed by the Chance Party with 75%, the PSRM with 70% and the former Democratic Party that is now called the European Social Democratic Party with 39%.

Igor Boțan said such relatively new parties as the CUB and the Party of Change have great potential, while such established parties as the PLDM and the PSRM even lose ground to some of the new parties in terms of organizational and administrative potential.

The ADEPT director considers the information that shows the organizational and administrative potential of parties is important for voters and analysts. It does not yet mean that this organizational and administrative potential is proportional to the sympathy of voters. The sympathy and support of voters could be judged the next day after elections.

Data about the costs incurred by parties in the election campaign is also presented on alegeri.md. It can be ascertained here that two parties haven’t presented such reprots to the CEC. There are also presented data about the number of voters, which show that the figures decreased in all the electoral districts, except for the municipality of Chisinau. The number of candidates for councilor of the first level decreased compared with the campaign of 2019 and this points to internal migration.

Eighteen opinion polls were conducted this year and they are presented on the platform in two categories: polls made public during the electoral period and polls made public in the pre-electoral period. Averages were determined based on these. National and international election monitoring reports were posted on the website.

Igor Boțan called on the population to go to the polls so as to later demand that the elected officials ensure services of a high quality and provide solutions to the encountered problems.
